Recently the IRS issued a new warning about a scam targeting tax professionals.  The scammers send a solicitation to the tax professional that looks like it’s from a prospective client.  If the professional responds, the scammer sends a second email with a web address or an attachment. Clicking the link or opening the attachment infects the professional’s PC with malware that collects information from the professional’s PC, including email address, password, etc.  Sometimes these emails may look like they’re coming from a colleague or friend – because their PC has already been compromised with the same malware.
